Enjoying my web hosting provider.
Gotta say that when someone makes your life a little easier you like to sing it from the hills. I had to do some transfers and upgrade my webhost at Hostgator, and they did make it simple and painless.
Thank you Hostgator! If you are looking for hosting, they have yet to let me down.
Pennsylvania casinos earn over 100k per day from tables.
I just read the Delco Daily Times newspaper that reported that the casinos in PA earned well over $100k per day from the addition of table games. I know casinos are money makers, and us players can only hope to get some good entertainment for our money, but when you tell me the numbers…I’m floored.
That is a lot of poker chips being thrown around. Now even if those number are inflated a bit because it’s new and people are still checking it out, there is a lot of college money being donated to the casinos.
In the early weeks of table games like blackjack, craps and poker, Sands netted in an average of $118,239 after paying all winners, according to numbers released today by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Parx Casino in Bensalem led the pack with $166,228 a day, followed by Harrah’s Casino in Chester with $140,870 and Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, with $127,188 per day.

Remember the old AOL internet service?
Does anyone remember AOL? I mean the old AOL that stood for America On Line. The AOL that made the funny noise when you clicked it’s logo on your desktop and off you went flying toward cyberspace. Well the old AOL is dead now, but I’m sure it was the experience most people had when they first learned to sign on. I know my parents would remember AOL. My mother used to sign on every night and check the news from the list of links that popped up when she logged in. The only world she knew was the walled garden of America Online internet service.
Now you might wonder why I bring this computing era up today in 2010, well it’s because I feel like this is the same fate for our much loved Face Book. It is loved by this generation of mainstream computer users for the ability to connect and update everyone you might ever have contact with. Countless hours are spent reading updates, reviewing pictures, responding to silly questions, and playing games. The concern is that every one of these tasks, plus the myriad of other things I can’t even think to bring up, are all done in the walled garden that is Face Book. The owners have you locked down. All of your personal information in their databases, all of your attention and computing time can be done right in their world.
I’m not convinced that this is a bad thing. The generation of people who have grown knowing Facebook needed someone to guide their online presence, someone to teach them how to get these things online to share and to read. The restrictions inside facebook are good for that purpose. I know that the generation who is now entrenched in the facebook world could never have done it without the silver spoon to feed them and the critical mass of users to pave the way for even the least technically savvy.
So what’s next?
Personal websites are the future. A little home on the web for you to post your own family pictures and quirky stories. More freedom than a walled garden will allow, but still a controlled environment provided by good web hosting and a simple to use interface that everyone can learn easily. The next generation will want more flexibility and freedom, and it will be there for them.
Every day of my young life my father would say to me “Remember you are a DiAngelus”. He wanted us to do nothing to hurt our family name, and at the same time know that anything was possible because of he power of the good name. To this day I hear from people who knows my family and they will pass on stories about my grandfather’s refrigeration shop in Springfield or Exton, and how he gave them a job, or supplied turkeys for Thanksgiving.
So my vision is a generation who want to stay connected and show the world who they are, but do not want the limitations of AOL or Facebook. So build your personal website now, reserve your full name, nickname, or anything to represent you online. With the availibility of free domains and good web hosting services it should be a easy decision, don’t let Facebook control everything.
So I hear the Sunday Night Football theme and I felt the cool breeze after the storm and my mind goes right to fall. NFL on the T.V all the NFL flags blowing in the fall breeze and the clock falling backwards.
I will miss the warmer, longer days and the swimming pool filled with toys, but the beckon of the fall season is here. Longer pants and jackets, autumn colors, the smell of burning leaves, and the leaves changing color. The sports teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers starting their seasons and MLB 2010 Playoff baseball…Go Phillies!
I’m just ready for the change of the season, and I am thankful that I live in an area with the change of the season. I’ll pack my backpack, head to Linville Orchard and eat my pumpkin pie.
Another Sunday……
I’m heading into the office for some phone calls and paperwork, hopefully home in time for the Phillies game…then HBO tonight for Entourage.
My son has taken to getting very excited about something to the point that he works himself up in a screaming rage. This morning it was “Thomas Train Track” that gt him jumping and yelling. Think it might be signs of hyperactivity or just a rush of emotions that a 2yo gets and does not know how to channel. I do believe that it’s this new built emotional mess that causes “the terrible twos” so it would seem to make sense that it causes these outbursts.
In other news, he has slept in his “big boy bed” for the last 4 nights without a problem. I plan on removing the crib tonight and never looking back
Now if he would just have as much luck when it comes to potty time…but that will be more about his parents as we are the ones who need to get him there…he’s already showed us he knows how to and is willing to use it.
Bad sites make my head hurt.
In my daily web travels I continually see these websites doing a horrid job of trying to attract visitors. Problems range from simple poorly coded and designed sites, to having the entire site as an image so the search engines can’t read a thing.
If you are going to create a website, and you even remotely care that people are going to find the site, please do some reading of the most basic design guidelines. Remember that computers can only see text for the most part, so what you write and how you display the text is critical. They can’t see pictures, and if you put text in pictures (jpg, tiff, gif, etc…) the web will never find it.
Just my 2 second rant after looking at a bunch of bad websites. Spending one hour reading basic information can make your web built 100% more effective!
